ooo, that hurts

There is a special kind of stab to the heart when one's child says 'her' name.

I was the kid in this situation, only I was 18, so I was old enough to know I had to tread lightly. Not easy. Hopefully the Boy will not feel like he has to walk such a tight rope. Yep - I just stuck you back on the high road again. Sorry it sucks up there. Love ya. Mean it.

Yep.

But later on, there is deep joy when you realize your child "gets it."

Deep joy. And sorrow that they have to be in that position to begin with. but kids are amazing and brilliant and insightful. They can and do get it.
